Clean up at Sweeps was a breeze. Everybody (except me) pitched in,

and it was completed in not time flat.

Before the event, we all were concerned with economy and all the negatives

out there can we break even?? Net profit $16,791. How did we do it?

     New ideas for fund raising

Everyones effort to sell tickets, particularly new Lions and Lions to be.

Everyone’s input to pull the program together, particularly the leadership of

     Lion Dennis, Lion Steve.

 Great job by all.

Frankfort JCCS’s Haunted House, located in the strip mall just North of the exit from LWN on Harlem.

This is the JCC’s big fund raiser and they need our support. It may be a substantial Lions fund raiser.

The House will be in operating each Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening in October .

They will need 4-5 Lions to staff it each night. How much can we do is the question considering

all the other October activities.  Under discussion.

Closing thought: With all the October activities, when considering if we are putting too much

demand on our time, don’t forget to consider how much more we can do for the needy

with these funds.

Hope to see you Monday evening.

Lion Rod.

Frankfort Lions Meeting

August 8, 6:30 p.m.

Founders Center,

140 Oak Street.

Catered by Aurelios

Proud to be a Frankfort Lion:  Last month, I had the privilege to present Jessica’s
mother with the $1,000 we approved  toward the purchase of a physical therapy bike.
She was very appreciative of our donation and I hope all Lions have an opportunity to
have this experience.  Since our donation toward the bike, I understand other service
organizations in the community are stepping up to make similar donations toward the
bike. The Frankfort Lions set a good standard for the community.

Proud to be a Frankfort Lion: The reception I receive when selling tickets door

to door is great.
Frankfort appreciates the work we do in the community.

Upcoming events:

Saturday, August 6th: Frankfort Rib Cook Off: Briedert Green: 21 contestants from all over Chicago metro
area will be cooking ribs. In addition to being a Lions “Can Do” program it will
also be a substantial fund raiser from selling water, sweet corn, etc.

Mayor Holland is behind this program and wants it to become a Frankfort tradition.

Lion Denise has pulled this program together. Our/your help is needed
from 11 A.M. To 4 P.M. If you have a “Friend of the Lions” that could
come help, please invite them.

Our support is needed to make this work. If you can not come for the
full day, give what time you can.

Monday August 15 Haunted House preparation. 10 A.M. The panels for the set up are going to be delivered

to the strip mall in near LWN. A crew is needed to move the panels into the building.  The Frankfort Jaycees are

coordinating this and need our help.

September 1. Sweeps Dance. Come one come all. It will be a fun evening. At our next meeting, there will be a sign-
up sheet for when you can be there to help.

In the mean time, SELL SELL SELL tickets. It does not seem possible, but that is only 4 weeks away. What better
opportunity, than right how.

Selling Raffle Tickets:  My pitch: This is the Frankfort Lions major fund raiser needed so we can

help the less fortunate. You  can win the $10,000 raffle, probably won’t, but might. We have a good

band, it is a fun evening and we would like you to join us. The tickets are $20 and you need not be

there to win. What do you do with the funds? Our motto “We Serve” Food Baskets, glasses,

special needs persons, computer last year to blind student, organizations depending on donations,

eagle scout projects, service projects in community, natural catastrophes  any need we may be able

to answer .

Be sure to ask if they would be interested in  to becoming a Lion or Friend of the Lions.

Comment: A special thanks to the Frankfort Lions who have made the 2009 to 2011 years outstanding for the

Frankfort Lions. Lion Al has done a great job of leading us.  Thanks Lion Al and for your leadership.

Helping others and being involved is being a Lion . We need everyone’s support to conduct these fund raising

events to help the less fortunate.  With everyone’s contribution it will be done.

Thank you and don’t forget to sell the Sweeps tickets.

Installation of new officers and distribution of “Sweeps Tickets”.

Proud to Be a Lion:

At last nights board meeting we were discussing sharing costs/contributing toward a physical therapy bike wanted by a young lady with cerebral palsy.  Questions arose, is it necessary? What does the therapist recommend?  How many other persons with cerebral palsy in the area could use one?

Lion Steve came up with a great idea, could we get the product that could be used by other persons with a like condition?  Maintained by one of our community organizations?  Park district, schools, churches, etc.

Feasible??  An opportunity for Frankfort Lions to “Help Others” ?? To be determined.

We need a committee to investigate costs, options, etc. Anyone interested in participating. call me. Lion Rod.

Recent activities.

5 K Walk May 14. Hilda Walker School. Thanks to Lions Mia & George Dunlap,  Denise & Jon Lenz Joe Rohaly who helped cheer the participants to the finish line.

It was warm, had to seek shelter from a storm that came through.  Some shelters were rather unique. All in all, not a bad day. Funds raised? to be determined.

Up coming events:

Reasons to Be A Proud Frankfort Lions

2010 Frankfort Lions “Business as usual, helping others”.

This year’s economic problems created challenges and it seems, opportunities for the Frankfort Lions.

Responding to the economic problems, the requests for food baskets have increased and we have responded almost doubling the number distributed and increased the food supplied to families. Lions Al & Donna ram rod this program.

“Strides for Diabetes awareness” with LWE’s cooperation was a great success. Net income $2,500 to be distributed to American Diabetes Assoc, Juvenile Diabetic Assoc and LOI to help fund a bus to diagnose Diabetic Retinopathy. Thanks Lion Joe.

Several local business have approached Frankfort Lions offering to help raise funds to support our activities. Communities have ask us to support their parades and activities.

Chicagoland Speedway was a new experience, but a new endeavor to earn funds to “help others.” These added funds has helped fund many projects. Thanks to Lion Denise for identifying this opportunity.

We have our own webb site “Frankfortlionsclub.org” up and running. Check it out. Lion Joe

Our traditional fundraisers, Sweepstakes Dance, Candy Day & Sight & sound have all done much better than they have done in recent years.  A special thanks to Lion Dennis, Lion Don and Lion Sue for their leadership and getting all the rest of us involved making these programs successful.

From Peace Posters by grade school children to helping put a ramp in for a disabled couple we were active throughout the community.

Have a great Holiday Season and a Happy Healthy New Year.

Lion Rod.
