The Board of Directors of the Frankfort Lions club will meet on Tuesday, 5 June 2012 in the Kitchen Room of the Founders Center at 140 Oak Street in historic Frankfort.

The meeting begins at 7:00 p.m.

Among those items under discussion are the 31st Annual Sweepstakes, 4th Annual Ribfest, the President’s Outing, and more.

Stray Bar owner Lion Don Keane has graciously opened his place to the Frankfort Lions. All proceeds from drink purchases go the Frankfort Lions Charity Account.

This is a great time to meet people, have a drink, and know that you are helping a fantastic local organization. The Frankfort Lions serve the immediate Frankfort area.

Place your drink order with one of the Lion Celebrity Bar Tenders, and bend an ear with your worries. There is a good chance your stress, and woes will be left. Come with one friend, but leave knowing many more. The Stray presents a wonderful casual atmosphere for chatting with friends, neighbors, and complete strangers.

Dear Lion,

We may not have known it at the time, but we had a large learning curve ahead of us when we took on our leadership duties last July. We had enthusiasm and energy on our side but we were still beginners in the positions we now occupy. Looking back on the last 10 months we can see how far we have come and how much we have learned. Now that we are equipped with this invaluable experience it is no time to allow our energy and enthusiasm to wane. We are all better leaders now than when we began our leadership year. That means that our final months in office have the potential to be our most effective.

I personally will not stop working and leading until I cross the stage at the international convention in Busan to pass the international presidency on to my successor. I ask that you do the same. Please join me in creating a strong finish to our leadership year, remembering that leading Lions in the service of others is a privilege as well as a duty.

In particular, I hope that you will pay special attention to the newest members of your Lions family. By following the My Club, My Family concept we have succeeded in reducing the number of members that leave our organization. Help advance this success into the next Lions year by contacting new members, making them feel welcome and ensuring that they receive the orientation and mentoring they need to become effective Lions.

Finally, I ask that you be generous with the knowledge you have acquired and share it willingly as you pass the gavel of leadership to your successor.

Thank you for all you have done and all you will do in your remaining time as a Lion leader.

A Commitment to Sight
In accordance with longstanding tradition this May is designated Lions Recycle for Sight Month and it is an ideal opportunity for your club to demonstrate its commitment to eye health. By beginning or renewing emphasis on an eyeglass recycling effort your club can restore good vision to hundreds of individuals in areas of the world where eyeglasses are costly and difficult to obtain. At the same time you will be increasing community awareness of your club and of Lions Clubs International’s leading role in blindness prevention and sight preservation. Nurturing Our Lions Family
We must never cease to nurture our Lions family. Our year of leadership may be winding down but some Lions are just gearing-up for a long run. The newcomers in your clubs and districts still look to you for leadership and it is up to you to ensure that they receive effective orientation and careful mentoring as they begin their Lions careers. As always, it is important that all members of our Lions family are made to feel welcome by greeting them warmly, listening respectfully to their ideas and assigning them to meaningful duties that make the best use of their talents and interests.

Protecting the Environment
We must never believe that we have done enough to help protect our environment.Many clubs around the world planted trees as part of last month’s Protecting Our Environment Global Service Action Campaign and there is still time to add to the overwhelming success of our tree planting campaign. Planting trees helps renew the Earth’s atmosphere, prevents soil erosion and can provide a supplementary food source and employment in poor communities. I urge all clubs to continue planting right through June so that our tree planting campaign will be remembered as one of the great events in the history of Lions Clubs International.

Inviting New Members
Because the future of our association depends on a steady stream of new members, inviting high-quality individuals to join our clubs should be a priority in every season. In particular, inviting more women and young people to become Lions will ensure that our clubs will have a diversity of talents and insights as well as a wealth of energy with which to serve our communities even better in the future. Lions Matt Brashinger III, Phil Cox, Al Russo, Dennis Murphy, and Paul Oswald modeled items at the January 2012 meeting. The items are knitted by Mary McDermitt and her organization "Hands From the Heartland" for wear by US military personel in Afghanistan. Frankfort Lions donated $250 to "Hands From the Heartland" to buy yarn.

The regular meeting of the Frankfort Lions club is on the second Monday of the month. The next meeting is Monday, 14 May 2012 at the Founders Center at 140 Oak Street.

Socializing begins at 6:00 p.m.

Hi ALL,

I hope this e-mail finds you doing well and having a great day!

We wanted to THANK EVERYONE for all your help with Connor’s fundraiser. Some of you passed the word around, sold tickets, bought tickets, helped at the event, donated money and your time……it was all very much appreciated! There is no way this will reach everyone, but it is our hope to make this e-mail reach as many people as we can! PLEASE forward this to anyone on your e-mail list that may have been involved with the event! PLEASE!!!!

It was a huge success. Many asked how we did. The total amount was over $30,000.00 which was all handled by the Lions’ club and still remains there. They were able to purchase many of Connor’s equipment including a manual wheelchair, fix his donated chair, fix his current chair, in addition to starting the process of a new electric wheelchair. Connor has a new verbal communication device with verbal app’s to help him communicate and safety devices to help in get in and out of his home, as well as so much more! This has well surpassed the “idea” of a bake sale that started with some friends over a bottle (or more) of wine. Our community, family, friends and strangers, all came together and helped Connor and our family and we could never really thank you enough. We are humbled and relieved….in a way I am unable to put into words. We will attempt to do this on facebook as well, but not sure how to send this to everyone on the event page….any ideas?

 Frankfort Lions- Opportunity to help others

 Program:  “Feed My Starving Children”

Every day 18,000 children die of starvation, Mobile Pack will supply the ingredients and ship food for the needy. Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Frankfort is sponsoring the local program with $25,000 and 500 volunteers to package and pack 100,000 Meals which are to be shipped to “Feed My Starving Children”. 93% of the funds go to food, 7% for shipping costs, etc. No $$ profit to Good Shepherd.

 Where: Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 295 Sauk Trail, Frankfort

When Friday, 6-22 & Saturday 6-23. There will be 6 events (shifts) with about 80 persons per event.

Shifts

Friday-6-22- 3 to 5 and 5:30 to 7:30

Saturday 6-23, 9-11, 11:30 to 1:30, 2 to 4 & 4:30 to 6:30.

I believe an individual can sign up for as many shifts as they want.

With each shift there will be a 10 min. Orientation and we will be assigned jobs necessary to pack and assembling the food packets for shipping.

The organizers have not yet opened up to the general public the opportunity to sign up to help this worthy cause. If you wish to participate, you need to get your reservation in
ASAP.

The Frankfort Lions Club holds its monthly meeting at Founders Center at 140 Oak Street in Historic Frankfort on Monday 12 March 2012.

The  social begins at 6:00 p.m. the business meeting opens at 6:30 p.m.

The speakers will be Phyllis Jacobek from Mokena, and Pierre Gregoire from the Frankfort Library.

Lion Donna Stratton has requested that each of us bring a bag of Easter candy to this meeting. She will be include the candy in the Easter Food Basket delivery on Saturday, 31 March 2012. Basket delivery will launch from the Stratton house at 9:00a.m. All Lions are encouraged to be there to help with delivery.
